Beaumont History

The story of Beaumont Signs establishes our company as one of the most enduring and prominent businesses in the New Bedford Area. We have always been committed to offering the highest quality standards for all our customers and our prices are extremely reasonable. These aspects have continually given our business the drive to succeed and produce one of the most important tools of your business.

We began in 1893, when Anson Lee Beaumont and Andrew Beaumont formed a grocery store. While painting advertisements on windows, Andrew developed a keen interest for sign painting and began working for many of the local businesses. So in 1918, Anson and his son, Frederick Evans, created a sign business. Frederick had learned his craft from his former employment at the Blair Sign Co., prior to WWI. They went into a partnership with Charles Halliday and named the business after his wife's maiden name. The Hill Co. was located on 345 Acushnet Ave.

During the Second World War, Fredrick Evans bought out the company from Charles Halliday and renamed it Beaumont Sign Co. In 1946, Frederick Jr. joined his father and helps expand the business. He became the owner in 1957 when Frederick Sr. retired.

Beaumont Sign Co. moved to several locations during the 1960's and 1970's. The first move was to William St. in 1960, until the company bought out Craftsman Signs on Pearl and Purchase Streets in 1962. Beaumont Signs relocated to Coggeshall St. in 1972 and stayed there until the early 80's before it's last move to the present location on North St. Beaumont Sign Company becomes incorporated and flourishes.

Our present owner, Frederick Evans Beaumont III, joined the business in the early 1970's. His brother, John, joined in 1978 and his sister, Beth, entered the family business in 1981. Frederick Jr. retired from the company in 1984 and left Frederick III, John, and Beth to co-own and manage the business. Under their supervision, the company expanded and grew from 6 staff members to 13.

At Beaumont Sign Co., we are very proud of our history and the legacy we have established. We have always accommodated the small business and for over 80 years have continually served Rhode Island, Southeastern Mass., and the Cape. We are very dedicated to providing quality service and a guaranteed satisfaction for all our work.
